Iron Man Week Banner

I’ve talked on the show about how much I love Matt Fraction’s “Invincible Iron Man” run, and more specifically “The Five Nightmares” story line. So in segment I’ve decided to do for the week titled “Iron Will” I’ll highlight some of my favorite scenes, and give a bit of commentary on each. See if your favorite moments made the list after the jump!

The interaction here with Pepper is priceless. The bits back and forth between Tony and Pepper are actually fun to read, and are genuinely funny. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that Salvador Larroca draws a beautiful Pepper, and I love the way he draws Tony’s armor and the suiting up process.

The first of many interactions with Thor. This one is particularly humorous, due in part to Tony’s narration towards the end.

All these panels from Tony and Reed Richard’s chess mach are not only funny, but the last one in particular gives insight in just how smart Tony is. He’s always 3 steps ahead of you, and you better bring your best game if you want to go toe to toe with him.

These last two images go hand and hand. Peter’s narration is perfect for the image that he captures, and fits so well what Tony is feeling after the damage and pure chaos that Ezekiel Stane has caused. The image is just so fitting and is a perfect summation of what Tony dealt with in the first arc, and even more so, the responsibilities the character faces. Just a beautiful scene that is literally flawless.

What did you think of these moments, and more importantly, what did you think of ‘The Five Nightmares’ if you’ve had the chance to read it? Sound off in our comments and let us know!
