On the newest edition of Comic Book Resources’ “Cup of Joe” column, Marvel’s new Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada confirms that the digital release of the new Invincible Iron Man Annual #1 will be broken into 3 parts, each costing $1.99. The issue has been solicited for a cover price of $4.99 for over sixty pages of content. For those unfamiliar with the announcement, the annual will have a day and date digital release with the actual issue.
Dane and I talked about this topic in this week’s news episode, which should be hitting feeds soon, but I want to discuss it a bit more here. While maybe a bit controversial of a move, I think this may actually drive some fans into their local comic book stores to buy the issue, which is never a bad thing. Fans who might have been holding out for pricing on the digital version may now have that extra push to head in to their store and grab an actual physical copy. Personally, I don’t see why Marvel couldn’t just package the entire issue together instead of separating it into 3 parts, even with Quesada comments that the annual works well as a 3 story act.
This certainly was a bold move on Marvel’s part, and I have to applaud their attempt at this new digital initiative. We will have our eyes on this and keep you all in the know, but right now I want to know what you think. Sound off in the comments below and let your voice be heard!
