Howdy folks! Our coverage of the DC Nation: Event Horizon panel will be starting soon. Hopefully we’ll get some good announcements from today’s panel! Appearing at today’s panel are Dan DiDio, Jim Lee, J. Michael Straczynski, Grant Morrison, and Geoff Johns. Hit the jump for our full recap!
Dan DiDio just showed up. There isn’t anyone here yet with the exception of JMS.
DiDio has something for us. I’m guessing it’s the Blue Beetle reel and it is!!
Footage won’t play with sound, fan says ‘It worked for Geoff Johns’. DiDio responds with ‘Everything works for Geoff Johns.’
Wow. This is pretty awesome. I’m VERY impressed. Those photos don’t do the reel justice.
Johns and Morrison are now headed up on stage after showing up a little late.
DiDio brings Darksied on stage to sit next to Morrison. Grant states that if anyone sees any glowing beams to let him know.
DiDio asks about reaction to new Wonder Woman change and the fan response is lukewarm and DiDio brings a woman dressed as the new Wonder Woman on stage and then DiDio asks fans what they want to see from the new direction on the Wonder Woman series.
‘If those of that aren’t sure on the new costume, give me two issues.’ – JMS. WW is ‘working towards a goal’. JMS wants to add new villains to WW’s rouges gallery. Bringing in lots of Greek Mythology.
And now Jim Lee is on stage. DiDio is now transitioning to Green Lantern. DiDio wants a Green Lantern on stage and grabs a female green lantern. She sits next to JMS and Johns. JMS says ‘I’ve had dreams like this.’ Johns says he wants to a Valentine’s Day special with Dex-Starr and he says he’s not kidding. References Agent Orange Holiday story. JMS wants to do a tribute issue for Lex Luthor story that is completely run by Lex himself.
LOTS of love for Morrison’s Batman run. Grant says he loves the Joel Schumacher Batman. Makes fun of Schumacher’s Alfred and the weirdness of the rubber outfits, specifically the ‘I took the liberty sir’ line in Batman: Forever. Morrison talks about all the changes coming in Batman, INC. Will be a team up between Sliver age Kathy Kane aka the first Batwoman and Batman, will be very much like Brave and the Bold. Sounds GREAT.
In Batman: The Return we’ll see Damien and Bruce work together. Grant likes making new characters to play with, so we’ll see plenty of new villains.
Now on to Superman. ‘There will be problems he’ll come across that he can’t solve easily.”
On to Flash, which will hopefully bring some Flashpoint news. Johns says that there’s a huge cast of characters that he wants to play with, has tons of plans for the Flash family. ‘It’s a building process and I want to build it bigger.’ And now it’s Q and A time.
Looking at the Brightest Day teaser now. Johns doesn’t really give any details on the teaser. Carol Ferris will learn about ‘The Predator’ very soon in Green Lantern #57.
Update on Batman Earth-One, won’t be about a Batman that’s good at his job. He’s learning to become Batman. As far as Who’s Who, we’ll see that next year.
‘With these four [JMS, Grant Morrison, Geoff Johns, Jim Lee] the characters [of the DC Universe] have never been in better hands.’ – DiDio.
Johns and Morrison are working on a project together for next year and that’s all they’ll say. Also, Morrison does a GREAT New Jersey voice.
Anything in the works for Young Justice? Other than the TV show, they’ll be reprinting old Young Justice material. JMS on Brave and the Brave – ‘Jor-El and Pa Kent, Phantom Stranger and Supergirl.’ Oil Spill scene in Brightest Day was written due to the BP Oil Spill.
And…I don’t know how to explain what just happened. DiDio just got a baby DiDio?! Yeah I’ve no idea.
What happened to the Wally West co-feature? ‘I promise you’ll see Wally West stuff soon. He won’t be a co-feature.’ Johns has a good John Stewart storyline, but he’s got it tucked away for now.
Flashpoint – It will be a big Flash story but Johns can’t talk about it right now.
DiDio hinted about Justice League book that may involve Jim Lee. What made JMS ground Superman? ‘That’s just a good way for him to interact with everyone. He’s an everyman. He needed to be around ordinary folks.”
Cassandra Cain will be seen outside of Comics in something Johns is working on. INTERESTING.
Second Flash book called Flash: Speed Force that will be about all the other speedesters, but will mainly focus on Wally West. Flash movie? ‘We’re developing something and that’s all I can say’ said Johns.
Cameron Stewart and Frank Quietly on Multiversity. Grant Morrison said Bleeding Cool was wrong and he won’t be announcing 10 artist for that book at San Diego this week.
More plans for Batman Beyond outside of comics.
