New Thor Photo; Captain America and Thor to Release in 3D

We’ve seen images of Thor before, but today Marvel released another official image, this time with Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. It also should be noted that Hemsworth has the fabled hammer in his hand for the first time. Let the amazingness of this image soak in before we hit you with another bit of news.

It’s also been announced that both Thor and Captain America will see 3D releases.  Neither of the two movies where filmed in 3D, although Captain America director Joe Johnston tried using a 3D camera rig during shooting, but found it restrictive and decided against using it. Instead they’ll receive an extensive conversion process. Movie fans know that these types of conversion aren’t normally very well received, (I’m looking at you The Last Airbender) but it sounds like Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige knows this:

I’d say there’s not a great feeling out there for conversion based on some of the films that may have succeeded financially but had their artistry come under fire.

Feige promised fans in an interview with the LA Times that “an unprecedented amount of time” would be spent converting the films to 3D. More interesting was a report out of Slashfilm saying that there will be a 3D presentation next week during Comic-Con for Thor. We’ll see if that ends being true, but with Comic-Con right around the corner, things are getting very busy and will continue to be for quite some time.
