Leftovers for August 24, 2010

All these news stories look tasty don’t they? Hope you’re hungry, because we’ve got plenty of leftovers for you today!

  • DC Comics released an image yesterday that combines all the variant covers for Brightest Day into one, interlocking mural. There are plenty of details to speculate and discuss about, and I recommend Comics Alliance’s analysis of the image.
  • Slashfilm has all the information on the possibility of multiple female characters in “The Avengers” movie. Whedon did confirm that Black Widow will be the only female Avenger in the movie.
  • DC Comics unvield that Scott Kolins will be taking over art duites on JSA. You can check out some the art from his first issue on the series over at The Source blog.
  • The Vulture has an exclusive report on turning the highly successful Locke & Key comic into a Television series. There’s some major talent attached to the project, including Steven Spielberg, Fringe’s Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles‘ Josh Friedman.

Did you clear your plate?

Scott Pilgrim vs. The Animation

I recently visited the blog of director Edgar Wright (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”) and saw a video post he had made.

Adult Swim has produced a Scott Pilgrim animated short. The animation is taken straight from the panels of the graphic novel and is voiced by the actors from the film.

After watching this I think it’d be amazing to have an animated Scott Pilgrim TV series, watch the video and let me know what you think.

January Jones Joins “X-Men: First Class”

In an interesting turn of events, Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Mad Men star and Emmy nominated actress January Jones has taken over the role of Emma Frost in Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class”. When we last reported on this, actress Alice Eve had apparently gotten the role of the infamous White Queen, but this exclusive report from Deadline seems to confirm otherwise, saying:

While speculative reports had Alice Eve playing that role, no deal was concluded.

This has me incredibly excited! I thought that Eve was a good fit for the role, but as an avid “Mad Men” watcher, I can confidently say that January Jones can NAIL the cold tone that Emma needs. The report also states that Zoe Kravitz will play Angel and Jason Flemyng will play Nightcrawler’s father, Azazel.

“X-Men: First Class” also stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till, Edi Gathegi, Kevin Bacon, Rose Byrne, and Oliver Platt. The movie is due out next summer and starts production in London in just a few weeks, on August 23.

  • In X-Men: First Class casting news, Oliver Platt and Rose Bryne have joined the cast. Platt will play the mysterious “Man in Black” while Bryne will take on the role of Moira MacTaggert.
  • Fred Van Lente’s heavily teased Avengers book has been titled: “Dead Avengers” and will spin out of the Chaos War event that launches soon. We’ve included some of the art at the top of the post, but check out this full CBR article for even more details on what looks to be an outstanding series.
  • Bill Willingham of Fables fame will write a “Warriors Three” story due out this November. This is the first work the writer has done at Marvel in quite some time.
  • The Avengers movie will be filmed in 3D, which is good news for us movie fans.
  • CBR has your first look at some of the other “Vampirella” variant covers, including a bloody brilliant cover by Alex Ross.
