Fox Wants Mangold for ‘The Wolverine’

Deadline Hollywood announced tonight that Fox wants Knight and Day3:10 to Yuma and Walk the Line director James Mangold to helm The Wolverine. You may remember that Darren Aronofsky had to leave the project earlier this year, causing Fox and star Hugh Jackman to hunt for potential new directors (including Mark Romanek, Justin Lin and Gary Shore). Deadline also reports that filming will begin this Fall.

I wasn’t a big fan of Knight and Day, but the rest of Mangold’s films have been thrilling to watch. If Mangold commits, he’ll hopefully be able to carry the energy of previous titles into The Wolverine.

What do you think of this decision? Sound off in our comments below!

Fox Shortlists Directors For The Wolverine

With Darren Aronofsky‘s sudden departure from The Wolverine, the follow-up to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is currently without a director. However, a report from Variety reveals that Fox now has a list of eight possible men to take over Hugh Jackman‘s adventures in Japan:

  • Jose Padilha (Elite Squad I and II)
  • Doug Liman (Mr. and Mrs. Smith)
  • Antoine Fuqua (Training Day)
  • Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go, One Hour Photo)
  • Justin Lin (Fast Five)
  • Gavin O’Connor (Pride and Glory)
  • James Mangold (Knight and Day)
  • Gary Shore (The Draft)

Out of this list, I would love to see Mark Romanek or Gary Shore take over the franchise. Romanek is a brilliant and truly visionary director and Shore’s ‘Wolverine vs the Hand’ trailer might just end up getting him the job. I’ve included the video after the break in case you haven’t seen it. Who from this list do you want to take over the next installment in the Wolverine franchise?
