Riding the hype surrounding Holy Terror, Legendary Comics’ first Comic-Con panel revealed two upcoming projects from Paul Pope (Batman: Year 100, Liquid, 100%) and Matt Wagner (Grendel, Mage) and we’ve got more information about these anticipated projects after the break.

At the panel, Legendary announced two new projects from Paul Pope and Matt Wagner. Pope will republish 200 pages of his out-of-print work, including never released work and panels. Titled PulpHope, the book is set to be released in time for the holiday season.

Matt Wagner will team with Legendary Chairman and CEO Thomas Tull (executive producer for 300 and The Dark Knight) and Simon Bisley (200 A.D. and Lobo) to reveal a supernatural action/adventure following bounty hunter John Tower. The Tower Chronicles follows Tower and his team of high-tech mercenaries to battle that which goes “bump” in the night and is expected to be the brand’s signature title. Although both Pope and Wagner were guests at the panel and spoke with several fans, a release date is TBA. All the brand’s books will be available digitally.

According to Legendary’s blog, Bob Schreck stated

“We are thrilled to be working with Pope and Wagner on these upcoming projects for Legendary Comics. Just as our film division works with the best-in-class talent and filmmakers to produce content for the fandom demographic, so too will Legendary Comics move forward on our mandate to publish works from the best in the industry.”

As we mentioned earlier in the week, Andrew Garfield made quite an impression before Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man panel, but did the panel itself impress as much as the man who will be Peter Parker did? Hit the jump for all the details.

Here are just some of the information we got from both Friday’s panel and the press junket which included, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, director Marc Webb, and producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmac:

There aren’t any plans to fold Spider-Man into the current on-goings of The Avengers and the film series.

Garfield said that he read a lot of Brian Michael Bendis‘ Ultimate Spider-Man and the movie reflects some of the aspects of that series. The actor particularly mentioned how he enjoyed how skinny Peter was drawn in the book and how he wanted to bring that look to the film.

Stone said that some of her personality bleed over into her take on Gwen Stacey.

Spider-Man will be seen as a villain by some as he begins to webswing.

Peter will make his mechanical web shooters and they’ll have something to do with OSCORP where both Gwen and Dr. Curt Connors work.

Speaking of Dr. Connors, the Lizard will look more like Killer Croc than the Lizard we’ve come to know. From the footage shown, the monster emerged from the sewers via a toilet in a women’s bathroom.

I’m incredibly excited to see what Webb and the rest of the crew have planned for us. Below, we’ve included the domestic and international teaser posters for the film. Based on these details, are you interested in The Amazing Spider-Man?

At Comic-Con this week, Marvel Television Vice President Jeph Loeb took the stage to discuss the future television plans for the House of Ideas. We’ve already heard about the Hulk series, but Loeb had plenty of other details to discuss. Hit the jump for the full story of what Marvel will be bringing to your TV screens soon.

Loeb had the following details to discuss regarding Marvel’s future projects:

The Alias pilot has now been named AKA Jessica Jones and will focus on Jones deciding to reboot her former superhero life as a private investager. Loeb also confirmed that lover Luke Cage (I hope Loeb has already given Isaiah Mustafa a call) and best friend Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel) would be regulars on the show, which will look to air on ABC.

On the Hulk side of things, Loeb again confirmed the show was in development over on ABC. He also said the show would be a new take on the character and would show Bruce Banner’s early days as he hides his secret. Loeb didn’t give any details on who would play the scientist.

Cloak and Dagger is in development for ABC Family and will see the title characters living in New Orleans after the chaos of Katrina.

Loeb’s final announcement involved something we’d yet to hear any details about. Mockingbird will be “Alias meets Felicity” and will see Bobbi Morse as a science major who gets recruited while in college to be come a spy.

On the heels of another big movie release, Marvel had quite a busy week at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. With tons of interesting and exciting book announcements, there was plenty to be excited about. After the break we’ve got a roundup of the latest from the House of Ideas.

Next Big Thing:

The Twelve will finally begin to finish next February.

Jeff Parker and Patrick Zircher will take Thunderbolt Ross to Arabia in Hulk of Arabia and introduce a “Doctor Doom” level villain for the Red Hulk.

Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning‘s Heroes for Hire will change to Villains for Hire in November as Misty Knight brings together a team of villains for a secret mission.

A new series of one-shots was announced. Avengers: Origins will focus on different characters with the Marvel team including Ant-Man and Wasp by Roberto Aguire Sacasa and Stephanie Hans, The Vision by Kyle Higgins and Alec Siegel with art from Stephane Perger, Luke Cage from writers Mike Benson and Adam Glass with artist Dalibor Talajic, Thor by Katherine Immonen, and Quicksilver & The Scarlet Witch by Sean McKeever. Marvel said these characters were chosen because they haven’t had origin stories that have been retold countless times.

Christos Gage and Sean Chen will take the students of Avengers Academy to the former base of the West Coast Avengers and will gain new members, including Julie Power and some of the Runaways.

Artist Shawn Martinborough will join writer David Liss this November on Black Panther as the hero takes on the Kingpin and Lady Bullseye.

Fear Itself, X-Men: Schism and Avengers: Children’s Crusade will all finish at the same time, effecting one another to a slight degree, in order to launch the next phase of storytelling for Marvel.

Cup O’ Joe:

November will see the next wave of Point One issues. A teaser was released featuring most of Marvel’s major books including; FF, Avengers, Black Panther, Thor, The Punisher, New Avengers, Deadpool, Ghost Rider, Herc, Amazing Spider-Man, Invincible Iron Man, both of the new X-Men titles, Venom, Captain America, Daredevil, Incredible Hulk, and Secret Avengers. Each issue will be a stand-alone entry point and will serve as the groundwork for stories to be told in 2012.

Cable: Reborn will hit this December as Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness bring back the famed X-Men character. Loeb describes him as the ‘Captain America of the X-Men.’

There will continue to be a bleed over from Disney into Marvel’s publishing in the sense that you’ll different creators taking on various Disney-related comic projects. The Peter David written John Carter movie-tie-in along with the Castle graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Kelly Sue DeConnick were cited as specific examples.

Marvel also has regained the film rights to Punisher and Blade.

There are more plans for the cosmic characters in the Marvel Universe.

Fear Itself:

Much like Dark Reign and The Heroic Age before it, Battle Scars will the next publisher wide branding of titles. Battle Scars will focus on the after-effects of our heroes in the wake of the massive battle that is Fear Itself.

Shattered Heroes will be a series of one-shots on where Thor, Iron Man and Captain America go in the aftermath of the event. Cap’s issue will deal with the loss of Bucky, while Iron Man’s will deal with the return of Tony’s alcoholism.

Jason Aaron will be the new writer on The Incredible Hulk. The first arc is titled ‘Hulk Assunder’ and sees the monster and the man that created him separated. The battle between Bruce Banner and his demon will explode out into the Marvel Universe. Marc Silverstri will be on art.

Writers Matt Fraction, Chris Yost, Cullen Bunn, will team with artists Mark Bagley and Paul Pelletier for The Fearless. The bi-weekly series will focus on the fate of the Serpent’s hammers in Fear Itself.

The three writers will also team for Fear Itself Aftermath: Battle Scars which will be drawn by Scott Eaton. The series will introduce a new character.

Fraction will once again team with artist Terry Dodson for Defenders starring Iron Fist, Dr. Strange, Red She-Hulk, and Sliver Surfer. The team will take on big threats, both magical and mystical. More of the team will be revealed over time.

Other News:

The Scarlet Spider’s return was hinted at.

Marvel also announced Marvel: Season One, which will serve Marvel much in the same way that the Earth One series has for DC. The graphic novels will hit next year in honor of Marvel’s 50 Anniversary. Fantastic Four: Season One by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with art by David Marquez, will release in February 2012, while X-Men: Season One by Dennis Hopeless with Jamie McKelvie on art will hit March 2012. These stories are described as classic stories with a modern day retelling.

Soon, all of Marvel’s titles will be available digitally for day-and-date release. First up will the the Spider-Man family of books, starting with Spider-Man #666, while the November launch of both Uncanny X-Men #1 and Wolverine & the X-Men #1 will launch the X-Men books.

We’ve got a TON of art work in our gallery below, but Marvel certainly had a lot to talk about this year. What do you think about all the news? Sound off in our comments below!

The man that brought the comics industry such classics as Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina will soon make his triumphant return. Announced today at Image’s panel, writer Brian K. Vaughan along with co-creator and artist Fiona Staples, will bring Saga to the comics world next year. Thanks to an exclusive interview with Comic Book Resources, we’ve got some more details about is now my most anticipated book of 2o12. Check the detail and the full teaser art after the break.

Saga sets to tell the tale of an ‘epic drama chronicling the life and times of one young family fighting to survive a never-ending war.’ The ongoing, monthly series will be an adult sci-fi/fantasy series and is comparable to the Star Wars films. Vaughan says the two characters on the poster are our romantic leads. Outside of these details, we don’t know about about the book, other than BKV is incredibly glad to be returning the world of comics.

The Walking Dead made an explosive return to San Diego Comic-Con this year, unveiling a brand new trailer, a poster, new details, and a ton of photos. After the jump, we have a recap of all the important news from the big show.

Before the con, AMC released details about a special edition of Season 1. Included in this edition are a series of new extras including a black & white version of the pilot episode, audio commentaries on all six episodes, and feature that fouces on the comic to TV adaptation of the series.

The Special Edition will come in three different versions (DVD, Blu-ray and a Limited Edition Blu-ray Collector’s Tin). Included in the Collector’s Tin will be a wearable zombie mask designed by The Walking Dead make-up artist, Greg Nicotero. The SE will release on October 4, 2011.

As for Season 2, the 13 episode season will premiere on Sunday, October 16 at 9PM EST and will lead off AMC’s annual Fearfest. The panel didn’t reveal too many details, but the close to five minute trailer gave plenty to chew on:

You have no idea, you have no idea how much this means to me. I’ve always wanted to come here as a fan and this is my first time, so here I am, as a fan.

I just wanted to say a couple of things. I’m Andrew Garfield and I’m going to be here to introduce this panel, this Amazing Spider-Man panel. Stan Lee says that the reason why Spidey is so popular is because all of us can relate to him and I agree.

I needed Spidey in my life when I was a kid and he gave me hope. In every comic I read, he was living out my, and every skinny boy’s fantasy by being stronger. Of being free of the body I was born into and that swinging sensation of flight and upon receiving his power, unlike most who would become corrupted, he used it for good. And I think we all wished we had the courage to stick up for ourselves more, to stick up for our loved ones more, or even a stranger you see being mistreated.

Peter Parker has inspired me feel stronger. He made me, Andrew, braver. He reassured me that by doing the right thing, it’s worth it. It’s worth the struggle, it’s worth the pain, it’s worth even the tears, the bruises and the blood. And I wouldn’t be able to stand here in front of you guys right now without feeling that Spider-Man was here with me, with his reassuring hand on my shoulder making sure I don’t fall over and concuss myself. And He has inspired countless people: girls, boys, men, women, all of us.

And he’s saved lives. And he’s saved my life.

And I owe webhead a lot. I owe Stan the Man a lot. And I am humbled to be here, like you do not know, to share the work we have done with all of you. And this is my first Comic-Con.

And this is definitely the coolest moment of my life and thank you for being here and sharing it with me.

In what is easily one of the best moments of San Diego Comic-Con 2011, actor Andrew Garfield took the floor in Hall H before the Amazing Spider-Man panel to talk about just how much playing Spider-Man has meant to him. We’ll have details on the panel soon, but check out the video of Garfield’s speech to understand how humbled this young man truly is.

(Thanks to Slashfilm for the video and the image above)

With four trailers debuting their biggest projects, Legendary Comics (a division of Legendary Pictures) has officially grabbed the attention of comic fans everywhere. With an Editor-In-Chief that’s worked at Oni, DC, and IDW, Bob Schreck has got a bit of a magic touch to bring to the start-up table. Legendary Comics has plans of publishing four to six graphic novels a year, both print and digital. There are hopes the loyal fandom of Legendary Pictures will transfer to the comic book world and we’ve got more information about the first comic from Legendary after the break.

The first trailer belonged to Frank Miller’s Holy Terror, a project that began as Holy Terror, Batman! for DC Comics until Miller caught word the publishers were “weary of the politically charged concept.” Deciding he had taken Batman as far as he could go and forgetting DC, Miller created a new hero for the new line. Named ‘The Fixer,’ he’ll work to take down those responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Speaking to the LA Times, Miller had this to say about the character:

“He’s been trained as special ops and when his city is attacked all of a sudden all the pieces fall into place and all this training comes into play. He’s been out there fighting crime without really having his heart in it — he does it to keep in shape. He’s very different than Batman in that he’s not a tortured soul. He’s a much more well-adjusted creature even though he happens to shoot 100 people in the course of the story…The Fixer has also become his own character in a way I’ve really enjoyed. No one will read this and think, ‘Where’s Batman?‘”

Holy Terror is scheduled to release in September for the 10th anniversary of the attacks, but you can see the first five pages on Legendary’s website. We’ve also included the trailer below.
