Lucy Punch Joins Powers, More Casting Due Soon

FX’s television adaptation of Powers has found one of its lead detectives. Dinner for Schmucks and Hot Fuzz actress Lucy Punch will play Deena Pilgrim, who is responsible for investigating crimes involving those with powers. Charles H. Eglee wrote the script which will be directed by Michael Dinner. Series creator Brian Michael Bendis will co-executive produce the show along with Dinner and Eglee.

For those that read the series, how do you feel about the casting? The movies I’ve seen Punch in are primarily comedies, so it’ll be interesting to see what she’ll bring to the role.

Bendis also stated on Twitter that this was just the first of several casting announcements. I hope we’ll see them sooner rather than later and I hope it’ll involve a certain famous TV coach. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

FX Courting Kyle Chandler for ‘Powers’

Quick note to anyone in Hollywood that might be reading this right now, the fastest way for me to get interested in your project is to cast Kyle Chandler in it. FX is currently looking to the Emmy award-nominated actor to portray Christian Walker in the television adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming‘s Powers. Variety reports that the Friday Night Lights alum had a meeting with FX executives today, but is still fielding other offers. They also state that Chandler has made no commitment to the show.

Having seen every episode of Friday Night Lights, I know for sure that Chandler is a more than capable actor. He’s incredibly underrated and I’d like to see his take on a cop like Walker. What do you think about this possible casting news Powers fans?

‘Powers’ Finally Finds Home at FX, Katee Sackhoff to Star?

After several years of development, the television adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming‘s Powers will finally go to pilot at FX. The Eisner award-winning series focuses on two police officers that handle cases involving those with superpowers. The pilot will be written by Charles H. Eglee with Michael Dinner set to direct. Dinner was an executive producer on AMC’s The Walking Dead and Eglee was an executive producer on The Shield.

Slashfilm also has a report that Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff is very interested in starring in the show. After a fan tweeted at Sackhoff about Bendis wanting the actress to play the one of the lead roles, Deena Pilgrim. Sackhoff responded saying:

already met on #powers last year! I love it! I’ve just been waiting for a green light to go after it!

Powers is one of the few Bendis books that I haven’t read. However, I’m excited about the creative talent involved and I’ll be even more excited if Sackhoff ends up joining the cast. I know Bendis writes great female characters and Sackhoff is an amazing actress perfectly suited for strong female roles.
