Countdown to Comic Con’10! Part 3

Ok, so where was I?  Oh yeah!  Today, I will be talking about education.  What?  You didn’t think you could learn something while at the Con?  Well, you are wrong!  Welcome to a little topic I like to call:  Panels That Will School You!

While in San Diego, you will be able to learn a lot from professionals about all types of things.  From panels about writing techniques to drawing and inking to finding jobs the comic book industry that have nothing to do with your lack of art skills, you can learn about anything and everything that has to do with our favorite recreational activity.  But, let it be known that a lot of these panels run side by side so you have to choose wisely.

Nuff Said

Comics are amazing things and while it’s our job to talk about them, some panels are just too much for words. Those panels end up here to be presented without comment, question or explanation. Nuff said.

Countdown To Comic Con’10! Part 2

Hello and welcome to Part 2 of the Countdown to Comic Con’10!  Today, I’m going to delve into the wonderful array of television and movie franchises that will litter the San Diego Convention floor.  As we all know, there will be TONS of panels and announcements about movies and tv, so I’ll highlight the ones based or related to comic books.

First, lets discuss movies.  Everybody knows Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is set to blow everyones mind on Thursday with an hour long panel.  Nearly the entire cast will show up as well as Edgar Wright and Bryan Lee O’Malley.  James Gunn and Rainn Wilson’s Super will be making an appearance as well as Sony’s The Green Hornet.  There will be a panel for The Clockwork Girl which will be a stereoscopic 3D CG film based on the comic. Producer Sean O’Reilly will be there with the cast to discuss the film and show a short featurette.  Warner Bros. will present audiences with Green Lantern, Sucker Punch, and Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows (Part 1 of however many they plan to stretch this out as).  Marvel will also bring their next two projects to the Con with a panel for the Thor and Captain America films.  Maybe they’ll throw in the new ‘Hulk’ for good measure.

But enough about movies.  The fall season of television will be littered with new shows as well as some of our old favorites.  Coming to San Diego this year will be the likes of Smallville, which will feature stars Tom Welling and Erica Durance as well as Geoff Johns, and The Big Bang Theory, in which Wil Wheaton will be moderating.  Other returning shows include panels for Chuck, Human Target, and Batman: The Brave and The Bold.  The ‘new blood’ of the convention this year will include The Cape, an NBC show about Dr. Doom as a hero, trained by a carnie (not really).  Also on board is No Ordinary Family.  All I can say is if you loved The Incredibles, picture it as a live-action show on ABC.  Last, but certainly not least, is our (see: my)  hands-down favorite, The Walking Dead.  AMC is sure to please as they gather the new cast along with Robert Kirkman and Frank Darabont.  And as personal favorites of mine, I have to mention Fringe and Supernatural.

So, I hope you are that much more excited about what’s coming to San Diego Comic Con’10.  On Monday, I will jump on a little topic I like to call:  Panels That Will School You! Stay tuned and comment on what you’re looking forward to the most, as well as anything I didn’t discuss!

Leftovers for 7/15/10

Without further delay, here are your leftovers for July 15, 2010:

  • Marvel is prepping a crossover between ‘Hawkeye & Mockingbird’ and Black Widow later this fall. Marvel.com has the full story, but the basic plot sounds fairly interesting.
  • Inception has an official comic prequel that’s actually pretty good. Check it out here!
  • Marc Guggenheim will be new the on-going writer on ‘Justice Society of America’ along with Shane Davis on covers.

Jennifer Lawrence is Mystique in X-Men: First Class

Director Matthew Vaughn continues to gather great talent for his upcoming X-Men movie. THR reports Jennifer Lawrence joins the ‘First Class’ cast as the blue shape-shifter Mystique.

Lawrence can currently be seen in 2010′s Winter’s Bone.

Mystique was played by Rebecca Romijn in the X-Men trilogy.  I don’t know much about Ms. Lawrence, but it seems like she looks the part, albeit not blue. With the inclusion of names like James McAvoy, Alice Eve, Aaron Johnson, Nicolas Hoult and Caleb Landry Jones, this X-Men film should be very interesting.

X-Men: First Class will be released on June 3, 2011.

Ruffalo Smash!??? Marvel Close to a New ‘Hulk’

It seems as though Marvel is wasting no time in finding a new Bruce Banner for The Avengers movie.  After all of the hype and back-and-forth between Marvel and Edward Norton these last few days, Deadline Hollywood is claiming there is already a new actor in final negotiations.

Don’t make Mark Ruffalo ANGRY!!!

You’ve seen this gentleman in Shutter Island, Date Night, and the 2004 smash hit 13 Going On 30. And even though these are still considered “late-talks”, one would assume that this guy has the proper qualifications to fill the role. I mean, based on the same qualifications that gave Edward Norton and Eric Bana a shot…

But seriously, you’ve seen Marvel quickly replace actors before when they didn’t have a need for them anymore *coughTerranceHowardcough* so would it really be surprising if Ruffalo gets the gig? How do you feel about the potential new Bruce Banner? Upgrade or terrible mistake? Sound off!
