FX Courting Kyle Chandler for ‘Powers’

Quick note to anyone in Hollywood that might be reading this right now, the fastest way for me to get interested in your project is to cast Kyle Chandler in it. FX is currently looking to the Emmy award-nominated actor to portray Christian Walker in the television adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming‘s Powers. Variety reports that the Friday Night Lights alum had a meeting with FX executives today, but is still fielding other offers. They also state that Chandler has made no commitment to the show.

Having seen every episode of Friday Night Lights, I know for sure that Chandler is a more than capable actor. He’s incredibly underrated and I’d like to see his take on a cop like Walker. What do you think about this possible casting news Powers fans?

‘Powers’ Finally Finds Home at FX, Katee Sackhoff to Star?

After several years of development, the television adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming‘s Powers will finally go to pilot at FX. The Eisner award-winning series focuses on two police officers that handle cases involving those with superpowers. The pilot will be written by Charles H. Eglee with Michael Dinner set to direct. Dinner was an executive producer on AMC’s The Walking Dead and Eglee was an executive producer on The Shield.

Slashfilm also has a report that Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff is very interested in starring in the show. After a fan tweeted at Sackhoff about Bendis wanting the actress to play the one of the lead roles, Deena Pilgrim. Sackhoff responded saying:

already met on #powers last year! I love it! I’ve just been waiting for a green light to go after it!

Powers is one of the few Bendis books that I haven’t read. However, I’m excited about the creative talent involved and I’ll be even more excited if Sackhoff ends up joining the cast. I know Bendis writes great female characters and Sackhoff is an amazing actress perfectly suited for strong female roles.

‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ Animated Series Acquires Paul Dini!

As if the San Diego Comic Con news about the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man animated series wasn’t enough, MTV has brought us another exclusive piece of news.  Paul Dini, who has had his writing and producing hands in little known projects like Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Lost, has offered his talents to the web-crawler’s new show headed for Disney XD.

Ultimate Spider-Man is a hugely successful series by Brain Michael Bendis which was a part of the ‘Ultimate Marvel’ books and ran from 2000 to 2009.  A videogame based on the series was made in 2005.

In an interview with MTV News, Paul Dini has this to say about the appeal of Spider-Man to him in relation to his usual superhero of choice, Batman:

I love Spider-Man, and I’ve never worked with the character before. It’s fun to try something new. There’s a different energy to Spider-Man than there is to Batman. Batman is dark and moody and spooky, and in some cases, methodical. There’s more of an element of a procedural around Batman, and there’s all sorts of great things you can do within his world. In animation, when we first rendered Batman’s world at Warner Bros., we were able to make it very dark and noir-ish and grim, which all takes its cues from Batman’s character.

Spider-Man’s world is more chaotic, more kinetic — it’s almost like stream of consciousness. You have to really put yourself in that mindset to tackle Spider-Man effectively. If you’re redefining the character that way, you want to redefine his world along those lines as well, and move things along and make it a lot faster. He’s a character who makes mistakes and has to go back and set things right and then continue on. He’s somebody who’s constantly thinking on his feet and trying to figure this out, because he hasn’t been doing it as long as Batman — it’s all new to him. It really is “great responsibility.” As cool as it is to be Spider-Man at times, there’s also a price to pay for that — and he has to learn to balance things out.
