Disney Acquires Distribution Rights to Avengers, Iron Man 3

On Monday, Disney acquired the distribution rights to both ‘The Avengers” and “Iron Man 3″. Both “Thor” and “Captain America” will see distribution through Paramount, but Disney paid $115 to get the rights to Marvel Studios next two projects. Also interesting to note is that Iron Man 3 will see release on May 3, 2013. Disney made an early move to obtain the rights instead of letting Paramount continue to have control. Here’s the official statement from Paramount chair-CEO Brad Grey:

“Five years ago, when Paramount and Marvel made our initial deal, both our businesses were in very different places. We are grateful for the partnership we have had with the terrific Marvel team over these years and proud of the work we have done together. Today, this new agreement is the right deal for Paramount, for Marvel and for Disney.”
