Marvel Shuffles Around ‘Thor’ Titles

The Mighty Thor #1 CoverAnnounced yesterday, Marvel has big plans to shake up the Thor universe of titles right before the God of Thunder makes his debut on the sliver screen. Starting in April, Matt Fraction will join with artist Olivier Coipel to launch The Mighty Thor. This brand new number one spins out of Fraction’s current Thor arc, ‘The World Eaters.’ As Fraction makes his exodus from Thor, Kieron Gillen will take over the title with Doug Braithwaite on art, while Thor reverts back to its original title, Journey Into Mystery. The series will continue with the original numbering. You may remember that Gillen took over Thor during Marvel’s Siege event.

Fraction and Gillen also offered details on the upcoming stories of their respective series. The Mighty Thor will see Galactus come for Asgard to do his normal thing (eat it) and Fraction promised a battle between Thor and the Silver Surfer. Journey Into Mystery will be a ‘mythological black-ops comic, with a rotating team’ which will be lead by Loki and will tie-in into the next Marvel event, which is being written by Fraction, Fear Itself. Speaking of Fear Itself, Fraction had this to say about the upcoming Marvel crossover:

Fear Itself is the epic Thor in the Marvel Universe story to end all Thor in the Marvel Universe stories.

Current Thor artist Pasqual Ferry will return to The Mighty Thor post Fear Itself for a story that ‘nobody else on Earth could draw’ except for him.

We’ve included several of the covers for both The Mighty Thor and Journey Into Mystery along with a bit of analysis after the jump.
