EW Assembles Avengers, Bad Photoshopping Skills

No stranger to superhero cover stories, this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive on Marvel Studios’ The Avengers, which includes several new set photos and terribly Photoshopped cover. Director Joss Whedon had this to say about the production of the film thus far:

There is a weird element of: they handed me one of the biggest movies of all time, and I’m making it up as I go.

Whedon also says that the team won’t be all friends, but that doesn’t hold true for the cast members: “I was like, well, if they hate each other, I guess we can use that,” he shrugs. “But they don’t.”

We’ve included all the images after the jump, but outside of Whedon’s quote, we won’t have much to go on until the issue debuts Friday.

Red Skull First Look!

Entertainment Weekly dropped this exclusive image of Red Skull, the main baddy in the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger movie.  Although we’ve seen a small glimpse of actor Hugo Weaving as the red head in the latest ‘Cap’ trailer, this is the first time we’ve received a full look at the villain.

EW also released an interview with the director Joe Johnston about vulnerability and how we can relate to Captain America and why he prefers Cap over other superheroes like Superman. You can check out the full story here.  Captain America: The First Avenger will be in theaters on July 22nd.

‘Iron Man 3′ Finds a New Director

Marvel Studios is in final discussions with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang writer/director Shane Black to helm the third installment in the Iron Man film franchise. Deadline broke the exclusive news this evening while also saying there’s a chance Black may end up writing the film. Black is credited with helping to relaunch Robert Downey Jr.‘s film career with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and he’s prolific writer, having written all four Lethal Weapon movies and The Last Boy Scout.

I haven’t seen any of Black’s work, but I understand the near legendary status his films have in cinema history. I’m still disappointed with the departure of Jon Favreau, but Black seems to be a worthy successor to the ole’ shellhead’s film franchise.
