20th Century Fox has released two new character posters from the upcoming release of X-Men: First Class. The posters feature James McAvoy as Charles and Michael Fassbender as Erik. Also, Empire has an exclusive photo which sees Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) and Emma Frost (January Jones) in a very blue room, presumably planning their next move.

X-Men: First Class is directed by Matthew Vaughn and is set for a June 3, 2011 release and continues to peak my interest with every new detail that’s released. We’ve placed all the images after the break.

The first official footage for X-Men: First Class is now online. X-Men: First Class is a prequel to the current X-Men trilogy, taking place before the falling out between Magneto and Professor Xavier. The film, directed by Matthew Vaughn, will hit theaters June 3rd and stars Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones, Jason Flemyng, Nicholas Hoult, Lucas Till , Zoë Kravitz, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Kevin Bacon. We’ve included the full High Definition trailer after the break for those looking to avoid spoilers.

It’s back, after being pulled down yesterday MSN has a new higher resolution look at the cast of X-Men: First Class. Not to be outdone, The Los Angeles Times has three new pictures to accompany their set visit article (recommended) that includes our first look at Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw. The above image features the X-Men dressed in classic X-Men colors and shows (from left to right) Michael Fassbender (Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto), Rose Byrne (Dr. Moira MacTaggert), January Jones (Emma Frost), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), Nicholas Hoult (Hank McCoy / Beast), Lucas Till (Alex Summers / Havok), Zoë Kravitz (Angel Salvadore), Jennifer Lawrence (Raven Darkholme / Mystique) and James McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier). According to Slashfilm, Jonah Hex, Inglourious Basterds, and 300 actor Michael Fassbender has been cast in Fox’s ‘X-Men: First Class’ as none other than Magneto aka Erik Lensherr. Slashfilm also reports that Fassbender was being considered to play the villain in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot movie, but chose First Class over Spider-Man.

Fassbender joins James McAvoy and Benjamin Walker (who will be playing Beast) as official members of the cast.  Rumors are circulating that Pineapple Express‘ Amber Heard will be playing a young Mystique along with Rosamund Pike playing Moira McTaggert. Needless to say, the cast will be quite large and will hopefully be filled with talent.

I think Fassbender is a pretty solid actor, but I had never considered him for Magneto until now. Stay tuned as more casting announcements come down the pipe.
