Russell Crowe, You ARE The Father!

How about this latest bit of Man Of Steel news? Russell Crowe is set to play the baby daddy, a.k.a Jor-El. According to Variety, Crowe is currently in talks to take on the role. The piece also notes that he apparently beat out Clive Owen and Sean Penn.

Marlon Brando played the role back in 1978, and he was a big shot. Christopher Nolan wanted someone of that caliber this time as well and, well, Russell Crowe has a few awards and acting acknowledgements under his belt.

So, what say you about this casting call? Ye? Ne? Throw a comment below and let me know what you think! We’ll fill you in with more as we get word.

Tom Cruise Joins Kosinski’s Oblivion

A lot has happened with Joseph Kosinski‘s Oblivion since we last reported on it. The movie adaptation of the Tron director’s first graphic novel has since moved from Disney to Universal and now has a major actor attached to the project in the form of Tom Cruise. Deadline reports that production will begin this October with Kosinski directing while Karl Gajdusek will rewrite the original William Monahan script.

Deadline describes the plot and Cruise’s role as follows:

It takes place in an apocalyptic future where most of the population lives in clouds above an earth surface that has been rendered uninhabitable. Cruise will play a soldier who’s stuck alone on the planet, repairing the drones that patrol and destroy a savage alien life form. He encounters a beautiful woman who crashes in a craft, and their experience together forces him to question his world view.

Disney let go of the project after Kosinski couldn’t commit to a PG rating. With Cruise involved in the project, production should begin to ramp up. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

New Images Reveal Full Green Lantern Suit

Warner Bros. released a series of images today that show the fully animated and rendered CGI suit for Hal Jordan in Green Lantern. The full suit looks to keep a faithful, yet new interpretation of the tried and true version comic readers are familiar with. The mask looks better than previously seen and I like the fact the suit looks like a next-to-skin baselayer. We’ve included the images after the break for you to sound off on.

Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell, will hit theaters on June 17, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett and Geoffrey Rush.
