Kevin Costner Cast As Jonathan Kent!

And there you have it, folks!  Deadline.com brought up the likelihood of Kevin Costner portraying Pa Kent in Zack Snyder’s Superman film about a month ago.  Now, it has been made official.  This news fills out the casting of the Kent family with Diane Lane as Martha and Henry Cavill as Clark.

Synder says,

“Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest super hero of all time.”

Another bit of Superman news is that Zack Snyder had a sit down with LA Times and goes on to say that there will be no relation to the previous films and that his film will likely be called Man Of Steel, although the decision is not yet final. You can read the full article here.

EW also released an interview with the director Joe Johnston about vulnerability and how we can relate to Captain America and why he prefers Cap over other superheroes like Superman. You can check out the full story here.  Captain America: The First Avenger will be in theaters on July 22nd.

Lane To Play Kent In Superman!

Confused?  Let me explain.

Warner Bros. Pictures announced the casting of Martha Kent in the new Superman movie today.  Academy Award nominated Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Hollywoodland, Jumper) will play the Earth mother of Krypton’s last son.

Director Zack Snyder had this to say about the casting:

“This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”

As of now, Lane and actor Henry Cavill (Superman/Clark Kent) are the only two stars officially announced for the movie.  It is rumored that Kevin Costner (Dances With Wolves, Field Of Dreams) will have a part in the movie, most likely as Jonathan Kent.

By the way, do you know how hard it is to find a non-sexy image of Diane Lane?! I defy you to google her!

Zack Snyder’s Superman is set to be released in December 2012.

Cobie Smulders in Talks to Assemble with ‘Avengers’

According to Deadline, How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders is now the front runner for the role of Maria Hill  in the The Avengers after a screen test on Friday. Smulders reportedly auditioned for the role with several actresses including Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield), Morena Baccarin (V, Firefly) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World). The multi-picture deal could finish as early as this weekend.

Deadline also reports that at one point Smulders was one of the names shortlisted for director Joss Whedon‘s unmade Wonder Woman movie.

As we reported Thursday, Maria Hill will play the sidekick to Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury and will hopefully bring the same spirit that she’s had in the comics over to The Avengers when it’s released on May 4, 2012.
