The Avengers Extended Super Bowl Spot

Tonight’s Super Bowl didn’t bring much in the way of Comic Book movie trailers, but Marvel’s spot certainly brought it. This extended trailer for The Avengers shows off tons of new footage including a money shot of the team assembled for the first time. You can check out the spot below:

The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon, stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson. The team is set to assemble on May 4, 2012.

EW Assembles Avengers, Bad Photoshopping Skills

No stranger to superhero cover stories, this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive on Marvel Studios’ The Avengers, which includes several new set photos and terribly Photoshopped cover. Director Joss Whedon had this to say about the production of the film thus far:

There is a weird element of: they handed me one of the biggest movies of all time, and I’m making it up as I go.

Whedon also says that the team won’t be all friends, but that doesn’t hold true for the cast members: “I was like, well, if they hate each other, I guess we can use that,” he shrugs. “But they don’t.”

We’ve included all the images after the jump, but outside of Whedon’s quote, we won’t have much to go on until the issue debuts Friday.

First Production Photo For The Avengers

It’s still hard to believe that The Avengers is happening, but this first production photo for the Joss Whedon helmed movie places it very much in reality. In addition to the production photo, Marvel has listed the official cast as follows: Robert Downey, Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Marvel also confirmed that Tom Hiddleston and Stellan Skarsgård will return playing their respective roles from Thor. The movie will begin production in Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to Cleveland, Ohio and New York City.

As production continues, we’ll hopefully have more images, but I’m more than content with this teaser image. We’ll have more news for you as the Avengers continue to assemble.

Cobie Smulders in Talks to Assemble with ‘Avengers’

According to Deadline, How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders is now the front runner for the role of Maria Hill  in the The Avengers after a screen test on Friday. Smulders reportedly auditioned for the role with several actresses including Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield), Morena Baccarin (V, Firefly) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World). The multi-picture deal could finish as early as this weekend.

Deadline also reports that at one point Smulders was one of the names shortlisted for director Joss Whedon‘s unmade Wonder Woman movie.

As we reported Thursday, Maria Hill will play the sidekick to Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury and will hopefully bring the same spirit that she’s had in the comics over to The Avengers when it’s released on May 4, 2012.
