As previously seen, we have Aquaman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, The Flash, and Cyborg. However, as DCWKA points out, there are some interesting characters in the sides of the picture, including The Atom, Firestorm, Deadman, Mera, Green Arrow, and Hawkman. I don’t know the identity of the other two women, but I think this image gives a good idea as to the full and future roster of the new Justice League. Are you anymore excited for this team knowing the future of its roster than you were before? Sound off in our comments.

DC Comics’ long rumored and surprising announcement this afternoon has sent the Internet and Comics fans into a frenzied state of excitement. With so much information out there, it’s hard to get a feel for what exactly will and won’t be changing. After the break, we’ve got an analysis of the changes DC just made and a round up of some of the already announced and rumored new #1 titles that will debut this September.

Major Announcements:

While most people are caught up in the chaos of the company line relaunch, I believe the biggest news is that DC will now go day-and-date with all its titles. For a company that we’ve previously criticized about being too slow to embrace the digital movement, DC has now proved to be the most forward thinking company when it comes to its policy on digital comics. The impact on brick and mortar local comic book stores won’t been seen and felt for a while, this decision sets a new precedent for the industry and it will be interesting to see how the other companies react. It will also be interesting to see if DC continues to “hold the line” with their prices at $2.99.

Then of course, there’s the news that has everyone up in arms. I’ll admit, I’m not particularly crazy about getting 52 brand new #1 issues and I’m not sure how I feel about this quote from Bob Wayne:

Some of the characters will have new origins, while others will undergo minor changes. Our characters are always being updated; however, this is the first time all of our characters will be presented in a new way all at once.

I’m all for getting new readers into comics, but I’m worried about how this will change the status quo of books like Batman, INC. I’m sure Superman will stay as the last son of Krypton, Hal Jordan will be a test pilot and Bruce Wayne will still witness the death of his parents. However, I am worried about other things, like Stephanie Brown not being Batgirl, or Conner Kent not being Superboy. I hope there isn’t anything too drastic, yet I would argue that some characters are in need of modernizing.

Also, included in the announcement was the fact that Jim Lee has designed 50 new costumes for our heroes. You can see from the full image below that characters like The Flash, Superman, and Wonder Woman have gone through changes.

Rumor Has It:

While most of my day was spent reading about these changes, the other part was spent reading about what’s to come. Comic Book Resources and Bleeding Cool have roundups and teases as to what might be ahead for some of our favorite characters:

New Legion of Superheroes series titled Legion Lost. Won’t share anything in common with the Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning series except for it’s name.

Superman and Wonder Woman will be getting together, or at least the possibility of it will be more likely now than it previously has.

OMAC will see an on-going, with Scott Kolins leading the title.

As seen above, Superman will get a new costume and the book will be penned by Grant Morrison. George Perez will be involved somehow and Rags Morales may play some role in the relaunch of Action Comics #1.

Green Lantern will continue under Geoff Johns and widespread changes from Blackest Night will stay in place.

There will be a Green Lantern team book with each corp (including the Black Lanterns) having a representing member. Tyler Kirkham will be involved to some extent.

Deadman will star in Adventure Comics #1.

There will be some book with the title Edge.

Birds of Prey will return, but without Gail Simone.

Fabian Nicieza will take over Teen Titans.

Marc Guggenheim will not continue on Justice Society of America and will see a roster change (along with many other team books).

J. Michael Straczynski‘s changes during his run on Wonder Woman won’t stick around.

We’ve heard about a new Hawkman series which will be written by James Robinson with art by Philip Tan.

As previously announced, Aquaman will launch under Johns and Ivan Reis.

And of course, Justice League will see the original roster return with Jim Lee on art and Johns’ on writing duty. This issue will debut on August 31, along with Flashpoint #5.

Bleeding Cool also mentions something about the main DCU merging with the Flashpoint universe. Don’t know how truthful this is, seemed more like speculation on Rich Johnson’s part, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Even with all this news, it’s still too early to tell about the future of various titles and characters. Regardless of your feelings, it’s an incredibly exciting time to be a comics fan. I’m interested to see how, if any, of these changes will spill over into other publishers.
This is it folks, the biggest comic book news since Disney bought Marvel.

This is it folks, the biggest comic book news since Disney bought Marvel.

Today via The Source Blog DC Comics announced it is relaunching their entire line of Superhero titles and will be the first of the “Big Two” (DC and Marvel) to publish same day releases of their digital and print comics. These changes will spin out of DC’s summer event Flashpoint ending on August 31st with only two issues being released on that date: Flashpoint #5 and the newly announced Justice League #1 by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee. After August 31st expect an onslaught of new books as DC will continue to release fifty-two new issue #1s. As far as what this means to our rebooted characters and timelines DC Comics’ Dan DiDio was quoted as saying that the reboot would give them “…a chance to start, not at the beginning, but at a point where our characters are younger and the stories are being told for today’s audience.” In an industry often stagnant and stuck in its ways I for one salute DC for making a bold and daring move forward but only time will tell if this gamble will pay off.

Read the full press release and sound off in the comments after the break.

DC COMICS ANNOUNCES HISTORIC RENUMBERING OF ALL SUPERHERO TITLES AND LANDMARK DAY-AND-DATE DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION

This year, change is in the air at DC Comics.

On Wednesday, August 31st, DC Comics will launch a historic renumbering of the entire DC Universe line of comic books with 52 first issues, including the release of JUSTICE LEAGUE by NEW YORK TIMES bestselling writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns and bestselling artist and DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee. The publication of JUSTICE LEAGUE issue 1 will launch day-and-date digital publishing for all these ongoing titles, making DC Comics the first of the two major American publishers to release all of its superhero comic book titles digitally the same day as in print.

DC Comics will only publish two comic books on August 31st: the final issue of this summer’s comic book mini-series FLASHPOINT and the first issue of JUSTICE LEAGUE by Johns and Lee, two of the most distinguished and popular contemporary comic book creators, who will be collaborating for the first time. Together they will offer a contemporary take on the origin of the comic book industry’s premier superhero team.

In the hours, days and weeks to come, we’ll have more news about the other titles. Tomorrow, we’ll hear from Co-Publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee about this momentous occasion. Keep checking THE SOURCE for updates about the other first issues.

This year, make history with us.

What’s going to take the place of Smallville?! Now, I didn’t really think too highly of this Amazonian reboot, but it did show some sort of potential. And, it could’ve catered to the fans who are just looking for a superhero tv show. But alas, like a neglected baby, the Wonder Woman television series didn’t get picked up. The Hollywood Reporter has collected the latest info on what we will and won’t be seeing on NBC next fall. There was a lot of buzz going around about this potential series, but it seems as though a lot of it was more on the mediocre-to-negative side. And with the peacock network being the final hope for David E. Kelleys’ interpretation on the warrior princess (her… not her), I have little hope that they can shop the pilot around to other networks and expect a positive outcome. I guess my dreams of Adrianne Palicki and Elizabeth Hurley battling it out will have to be postponed…

By the way, is there any way we can get our pupils on that pilot? We got to see Aquaman.

Now that’s more like it! The Daily Blam got their hands on reader submitted photos showing some much needed changes to Adrianne Palicki‘s Wonder Woman costume. It’s good to know that David E. Kelley and his creative team can take criticism, as this looks significantly better than the image that was released a few weeks ago. The darkening of the pants, change in boot color, and addition of the stars are all welcome changes to the costume. Now if the pilot script can get some tweaking, this could be a show that I’m really interested in.

NBC’s Wonder Woman stars Adrianne Palicki, Elizabeth Hurley, Tracie Thoms, Pedro Pascal, Cary Elwes, Justin Bruening, and Joseph Gatt and will be executive produced by Kelley. Enjoy the in-action photo of Palicki below and let us know what you think to these costume revisions!

Your first look at Adrianne Palicki in costume for NBC's Wonder Woman.

It matters not what I personally think of this first look at Adrianne Palicki as David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman. No. What matters are your opinions, which, here at Between The Panels, we take very seriously. So, head straight to the comments section and release your joy or anger or whatever this image from EW.com makes you feel. And remember to look on the bright side (which happens to be everywhere).

So far, Elizabeth Hurley, Tracey Thoms and Cary Elwes have also been cast for the show. Yes, these three get to admire (or pick on) Wonder Woman on a daily basis. Joy.

The Wonder Woman television show has found its leading lady with Friday Night Lights star Adrianne Palicki. Deadline announced tonight that the actress has landed the lead role in a modern reboot of the character that will see ’a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.’ David E. Kelley of Ally McBeal and Boston Legal fame wrote the script and Jeffrey Reiner (The Event) will direct the pilot. Palicki won the role after being the only actress to test for it. This isn’t Palicki’s first foray into superhero TV as the actress appeared in the failed Aquaman pilot, Mercy Reef and an episode of Smallville.

Early reports make it sound like the script leaves a little to be desired, but the casting of Palicki gives me hope. Not only does she look the part, but she’s an outstanding actress and I’m certainly more interested in the show than I was before.

We’ll keep you posted on all the latests with the Wonder Woman tv show, but what are your thoughts on the casting?
